How do you sew a Wrap Dress?

A wrap dress is a dress where you have one back pattern piece and two symmetrical front pattern pieces. The two front pieces cross over each other and tie at the side or back. You end up with a V-shaped neckline.

The construction will vary depending on the pattern, but you will stitch a front panel to each side of the back panel, attach your ties, attach your sleeves, hem and you are done! The fronts cross over, forming the front ‘wrap’ shape.

We love sewing wrap dress patterns because of how easy they are to fit to different body shapes. Having the neckline higher or lower is a super easy pattern hack. Stretch fabrics are incredibly forgiving for both those with smaller busts and those with larger. And simply tying the wrap tighter can give a completely different fit and allow you to get the look you want!
