Welcome to the Dolls House Quiet Book Sew Along – Day 1! I am Amy, from Anna’s Heirloom Boutique. Many of you may be familiar with me from various testing groups online. Pattern testing is such fun for me! But, today I am here to share with you a pattern that I designed, and had the privilege of working with Rebecca and her team to bring to fruition. Oh my gosh, you guys! It’s like working with celebrities!
[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”29420″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]To give you an idea of my mindset when designing this pattern, first let me tell you a little about ME….
A couple of years ago, we decided to move our family out of the manic rat race of the city, to a quiet Island in the Pacific Northwest. Our oldest child (now 15 years old) is on the Autism spectrum, and the small community setting here has been really good for him. In our early days of speech and occupational therapy, I learned a little about sensory engaging activities and simple ways to incorporate them in everyday play. I am certainly no expert, and have no formal training in the matter (other than just being a mom) but I have always kept this in mind when buying toys for him and his younger siblings. And nowadays, I am always on the lookout for travel-friendly activities for our 20-minute ferry rides to and from the mainland (island living, my friends!)
But, why buy toys when I can make and customize them to my child’s wants and needs instead? One of the perks of knowing how to sew, amiright?!
So, without further ado, I bring you the…
Dolls House Quiet Book

Rooms include a Living room and Bedroom, for a traditional-style doll house. Or, a campsite and swimmin’ hole for an outdoorsy theme instead. Mix and match as desired and have fun customizing a one-of-a-kind toy for your one-of-a-kind child. The Dolls House Quiet Book is sure to inspire creative and imaginative play, for hours of productive fun <3[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”29476″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]This project also happens to be a fantastic scrap buster! Have you ever finished a project that left you with a small scrap of material? Too small to make anything else from, but you just don’t have the heart to throw it away? If you’re anything like me, you might have a mounding pile of these rogue remnants taking up precious space in your fabric stash. Dolls House Quiet Book to the rescue! I made ALL of my furniture and accent pieces from little scraps that had been destined for the trash, but instead, got a new (not to mention, adorable) lease on life. WIN![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”27451″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]So, let’s get to the Sew Along already!…..[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”29928″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]Sew Along Schedule:
- Day 1 (Aug. 7): Prepare materials (shopping list of materials on my blog). Printing, cutting, rummaging through all your scraps and reminiscing about all the previous projects you’ve made (careful…this could take all day, lol)
- Day 2 (Aug 8): Sew the main house pieces (sew on the roof, and apply batting for all 4 pieces). Sew softy dolly.
- Day 3 (Aug 9): Design & sew outside of house (front and back)
- Day 4 (Aug 10): Design & sew inside rooms (Living room, bedroom, campsite, etc.)
- Day 5 (Aug 11): Assemble and finish the house
Today, is Day 1. It’s all about printing and cutting, and going through all your scraps to find the perfect pieces to create your one-of-a-kind Dollhouse. And, if we’re being totally honest here, I found this process to be much more enjoyable than I initially thought it would be.
Every scrap I came across reminded me of the original project I made with it. A scrap from that floral fabric I used to make my daughter’s Spring dress, becomes a sweet little blanket for Dollie’s bed. Or the pink chevron I used to make a cute pillow with last year, becomes a fun and creative roof for the dollhouse. I love that this project uses up all those scraps that I can’t bring myself to throw away <3[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”27430″ img_size=”600″ alignment=”center” onclick=”link_image”][vc_column_text]
