Every year we release a free ladies strapless dress sewing pattern just before Christmas. And we’re so excited to announce the arrival of the 2018 Party Dress…
This year’s dress pattern is incredibly special! The beautiful, vintage-styled, FREE strapless dress sewing pattern is the Patsy!
Patsy is total glamour with her tea length, full skirt and princess line bodice. Sweet and lovely for little girls and full on va-va-voom for ladies, Patsy will become your go-to favorite party dress!
For the ladies pattern we’d recommend beginners follow the plain bodice steps. But for the more advanced (or adventurous!) sewistas, follow our step-by-step instructions for a boned, interlined unbelievably well fitting bodice. There’s a free FBA tutorial for if you need a full bust adjustment and exceptionally detailed fitting notes. Everything you need to make yourself the most stunning dress you’ll ever own.
Get ready to twirl!
To supercharge your Patsy and add options of a Romper, Hi-Low Skirt, Fishtail Skirt and Shrug, see the Patsy Party Dress Add-On pattern.
Skill Level –
Pattern includes ladies’ sizes XXS to 5XL. See the size chart in the gallery above.
Ladies’ options include bodice boning, interlining and a gathered off the shoulder sleeves. Both ladies and girls can also add an optional skirt overlay for extra glamour.
Suitable for medium weight wovens (not suitable for knits or stretch fabrics). If you use a stiffer fabric, it will give the bodice more structure and the skirt will puff out more. A softer, drapier fabric will result in a softer dress with a swishier skirt. Some excellent suggestions are duchess satin, crepe satin, cotton drill, cotton lawn, taffeta, and velvet.
The bodice of the dress is lined, and suitable fabrics include light to medium weight woven fabrics such as Habotai (silk or polyester), poly anti-static lining, cotton, quilting cotton, and satin.
See the fabric requirements in the gallery above for yardage. A serger/ overlocker is optional but NOT required.
This trim-free pattern is a downloadable PDF and comes in A4 or US letter printable sizes. An A0 format (pattern pieces only) is also included should you wish to have your pattern printed professionally. PDF Layers allow you to select and print only the size/s you want.
