Every year we release a free party dress sewing pattern just before Christmas. And we’re so excited to announce the arrival of the 2018 Party Dress…
This year’s dress pattern is incredibly special! The beautiful, vintage-styled, FREE strapless dress sewing pattern is the Patsy!
Patsy is, above all, about glamour with her full tea-length skirt and princess line bodice. She is sweet and lovely for little girls and full on va-va-voom for ladies. Patsy is, for this reason, sure to become your go-to favorite party dress!
For the ladies pattern we recommend beginners follow the plain bodice steps. While, for the more advanced (or adventurous!) sewistas, follow our step-by-step instructions for a boned, interlined, and unbelievably well-fitting bodice.
We have a free FBA tutorial available if you need a full bust adjustment. Along with the exceptionally-detailed fitting notes, you have everything you need to make yourself the most stunning dress you’ll ever own!
While, for the girls… well, Patsy is sweetness personified with an elasticated back bodice. This makes for easy dressing and you can easily adjust the elastic for personal preference.
Get ready to twirl!
To supercharge your Patsy to even more magnificence, with add on options of a jumpsuit, high-low skirt, fishtail skirt, and a shrug, have a look at the Patsy Party Dress Add-On pattern.

Pattern includes ladies’ sizes XXS to 5XL and children’s sizes newborn to 12 years. See the size chart in the gallery above.
Ladies’ options include bodice boning, interlining, and gathered-off-the shoulder sleeves. Girls’ options include an elasticated or shirred back bodice. Both size ranges feature an optional skirt overlay for extra glamour.
Suitable for medium-weight wovens (not suitable for knits or stretch fabrics). If you use a stiffer fabric, it will give the bodice more structure and the skirt will puff out more. A softer, drapier fabric will result in a softer dress with a swishier skirt. Some excellent suggestions are duchess satin, crepe satin, cotton drill, cotton lawn, taffeta, and velvet.
The bodice of the dress is lined. Suitable fabrics include light- to medium-weight woven fabrics. Some suggestions are Habotai (silk or polyester), poly anti-static lining, cotton, quilting cotton, and satin.
Please see the fabric requirements in the gallery above for yardage, and note that while a serger/ overlocker is optional one is certainly NOT required for sewing this pattern.
This trim-free pattern is a downloadable PDF and comes in A4 or US letter printable sizes. An A0 format (pattern pieces only) is also included should you wish to have your pattern printed professionally. PDF Layers allow you to select and print only the size/s you want.
