How do PDF/ digital patterns work? Simply download, print, and sew. You’ll need a free Adobe Acrobat reader program and any home printer (or a nearby copy shop for A0 printing). Once you’ve printed the pieces, tape or glue them together. You’ll find an easy-to-follow how-to guide inside the pattern instructions, plus support in our Facebook group.

The trim-free pattern comes in A4 or US letter printable sizes and includes full pattern pieces and a detailed tutorial to guide you every step of the way. An A0 format (pattern pieces only) is also included should you wish to have your pattern printed professionally. PDF Layers allow you to select and print only the size/s you want/ need.

I put snaps on mine rather than buttons so the girls find it easier to open to get on themselves. Overall a great unisex pattern!!

    The Men’s Houston Henley can be dressy or casual depending on what fabric you use. It takes some time to do the placket, but it makes for a very nice look to the shirt. It can be made in various fabrics like French Terry, Cotton Lycra and similar fabrics.

    The first thing my husband said about this shirt when he saw it was “the placket looks a large”, but as soon as he put it on “This is really comfy”. I practically had to pry it off of him so I could hem it. Lol. In general, the construction is very simple and straightforward. The placket is a bit tricky- different method than I’ve used elsewhere. However the way the neckband sinks into the placket creates a much cleaner inside than I’ve come across with other Henleys. Overall, it’s a nice shirt, though I’ll probably narrow the placket on the next one to fit my hubby’s personal preference.

    A stylish model thanks to the placket. The placket does take some time to make, and I would recommend to test it once on a cheaper fabric, as it can be a little tricky. It’s also recommendable to use a thinner fabric for the placket, as there will be several layers to sew through. But the finished product is worth the work!

    I sewed this for my husband. He loves it! It’s a great layer for the winter, and the short sleeve option makes it very versatile. It’s a wonderful base layer. I can’t wait to make more.

    The placket may feel intimidating but if you take it slow, follow the directions (including the photos), and ask questions when needed, even a beginner can successfully tackle this shirt. My husband found the sizing (by measurements) a bit generous – perfect for layering! Take a look at the finished measurements chart and consider going down a size if you (or he) prefer a trimmer fit.

    Also, I would suggest a simple hack. Wait on sewing the buttonholes and buttons till after the sleeves and side seams are sewn. Pin the placket closed with a safety pin, and try the shirt on. The one I made for my husband went on easily, like a t-shirt, and so working buttons were unnecessary. Rather than make the buttonholes, I just sewed the buttons on through both plackets for the look of a Henley without the hassle of sewing the buttonholes. This try-on also allows you to customize the length of the sleeves and hem before sewing them.

    This was my first sew with knits in decades! I was able to use my serger for most of the construction and that made it an overall fast sew! Best of all…my son loves it, and I’m inspired to try more with knits!

    This was my first placket using knit, and it was trickier than I expected, but then suddenly, it was done and beautiful! I had to use lots of tricks (parchment paper, walking foot, hem tape), so I consider this an intermediate pattern, but it could just be that my fabric was finicky. I am very proud of this shirt and thank RP once again for stretching my skills and teaching me new methods.

    I like the slightly over the top shoulder, lines were very good. collar was excellent. I feel the placket is a bit large and directions for placket need some more explanation. I’ve made henleys before and this was by far the hardest step by step process to follow. Worked perfectly in DBP. Model was thrilled.
