Tessa was a prefect addition for my summer to fall wardrobe. With optional sleeves and a lined bodice, Tessa can be made to suit cool or warm weather. I made my sleeveless version out of a dotted cotton batik. In this fabric it has moderate structure. I plan on making another in viscose or silk for a better drape. I would recommend choosing a size based on your upper bust and making necessary adjustments for the best fit.
Suzanne Schoen –
Great Pattern. Used a mid weight woven fabric and wears great on jeans. Easy to adjust to height, but will make the next one a bit longer. The buste darts work great!
Binky Rotha –
This is a very quick sew, with beautiful results.
Pamela Munnerlyn –
I loved sewing this top. It was easy and the instructions were very clear on how to sew it. I finished it in one day. I will be making more of Tessa
Clare Bowes –
Tessa is a great pattern, easy to follow instructions and options for either french seams (with full instructions on how to) or using an overlocker.
I made size M in georgette fabric, which was a bit tricky (but i haven’t used that type of fabric before, so tip – use a fabric you are used to sewing!)
It is an all round type of top which can be either dressed up for more formal wear or easily worn as a more relaxed top.
Deepthi Gunasheker –
A quick sew. Nice pattern with beautiful finish.
Michelle Mason –
I really enjoyed making this top which is partially lined and that i could use a pretty button for the back. It came together very fast and i love the details at the back with the inverted box pleat and split yoke with button. Al, makes for a very pretty top
Maggie Tamanini –
I found that the pattern was easy enough to follow. The top looks great and is one of the most well constructed garments I have ever made. The French seams were a new technique for me, but it makes everything so clean. I love the back details on Tessa, too. Overall a wonderful experience and I will be making more!
Lisa Lazenby –
The instructions are clear and provide several finishing options which I appreciate. This is a nice woven top pattern that I can see becoming a wardrobe staple!
Elisabeth Busque –
Nice top! Great for business day.
Kirsty Bucholz –
Fabulous pattern with options of no sleeves. Nice and roomy design, so comfortable to wear!
Emilee Elder –
I was a little scared to work on this shirt as 1) I normally work on knits because the stretch is soooo forgiving with fit and 2) I’m currently 8 months pregnant and was scared to attempt such a large grade. However, I loved working on this top. There are a lot of little skills that you’ll either need to know or learn fast (like darts, adding lining, etc) but the steps helped walk through those parts. The length in the front is a little short (even after the height adjustment) but could easily be fixed with a little bit more of a height adjustment to whatever your personal preference is.
Frances Lancaster –
I love several parts of the overall design of the Tessa. The inverted box pleat and back yoke add a lot of style to the back of the top. And I love the shape of both the sleeves and the hemline. I made an XL based on my measurements, but it seems too roomy right at the bust area, so I will make some adjustments. A great fit everywhere else. I really like it and plan to make another!
Erika Donaldson –
I’m in LOVE! This is soo comfortable and looks amazing. I will be making more of these in a variety of different fabrics. A quick and satisfying sew.
Deshai Richardson –
Awesome pattern. There are so many options to customize and play around with it. Also is a very fast sew, went together in about an hour. LOVE this top!
Delhaise Sabine –
Simple blouse, very comfortable to wear.
Deb Sendelbach –
I really enjoyed sewing this pattern. I love the lined bodice and French seams, giving the shirt a nice professional looking finish. The lined bodice also gives the front added structure which I think made the shirt drape so much nicer. The sleeves have a nice drape too. The directions were very easy to follow. The modification I need to do on the pattern are a forward shoulder adjustment because it feels like the shirt keeps shifting toward the back, maybe even do a high round back. The darts seem like they land high on my chest. It looks like I could lower them about 1/2 inch. Thank you for a great pattern
Beck Meech –
I love this pattern! It was my first time sewing darts , and found the instructions and photos easy to understand. I made mine in Rayon, which makes the Tessa a lovely, comfortable top to wear casually with Jeans or dressed up with skirt/pants. I’ll definitely be making more!
Heather Gratton –
Nicely fitting woven top that’s ideal for the office. Depending on the fabric you can probably wear this anywhere. Easy and well explained sew.
Alieke Enders –
Nice pattern to sew. Very clear instructions with photos and an end result to be proud of! Ideal pattern to expand your collection for the office.
Amber Flanary –
I went for a younger more modern look with my Tessa by opting to leave the sleeves off, and it’s the perfect kind of shirt to wear to work because it’s nice, but also with jeans to be casual! The button loop was probably the trickiest part I encountered, and that was only turning it because my fabric was a little slippery. I would recommend a slinky fabric with this to get a nice drape, mine had some slight weight to it and I absolutely loved how the fabric drapes with the boxiness of the pattern.
Chantal van Drunen-Ezendam –
This shirt is the perfect addition for my office staple wardrobe. It is a fast and easy sew and it looks great on me.
Jenny Gomez –
Beautiful! I am going to have to practice the FBA, but overall enjoyed the pattern!
Aune Wood –
This is the first time I’ve sewn an all woven garment, and I’m so happy I did! The french seam finishes make it have an awesome polished look. It works with so many different woven fabrics and body types, and I haven’t seen one I don’t like. My favorite part are the flowy sleeves.
Jenni Elizabeth Early –
Tessa is a fairly quick sew for a woven sleeved or sleeveless shirt. With a simple front and reverse box pleat in back, it looks simple, but elegant. Make it in quilting cotton for a boxier look, or take it up a notch with a semi-transparent woven with a lovely drape (don’t worry, it’s lined in front). It’s finished with french seams inside, so the inside looks as good as the outside! A perfect garment for year-round wear. Dressy enough for the office. Comfortable enough to wear all day long 🙂
Juliana Garibaldi –
I loved the Tessa Shirt! For me, it wasn’t so difficult to sew TESSA (I’m a beginner). I learned to do FBA, Height and Sleeves adjustment. The version with sleeves it was perfect for me! Thanks a lot!
Julie McKinley –
Great pattern! Very versatile, wardrobe builder!
Kristen Wilson –
Fast sew with great results. Easy to dress up or down by simply using different fabrics. Comfy to wear.
Lucy lloyd –
I really love a pattern that pushes me as a sewist – box pleats, darts, French seams and bias binding all make this pattern a joy to sew together whilst challenging a beginner sewist to improve their skills. It also makes this garment professional looking inside and out! The instructions and pictures included make it a breeze to put together. I love the little button detail and the pleat on the back.
Rachel Loper –
Wonderful pattern and a great addition to a business casual capsule wardrobe! I love the hemline and i LOVE the inverted box pleat detail in the back. I can’t wait to try it next time with the sleeves.
Shaina O’Dell –
The Tessa is a lovely pattern. The pleat and button closure on the back look so nice together and the wide sleeves are a nice touch. I feel confident while wearing this blouse.
Sharon Courtney –
A lovely finish from this easy to follow pattern. French seams make for an inside as beautiful as the outside. Clear, easy to follow pictures guide you through the pattern.
Stephanie Johnson –
This was a very easy pattern. Instructions were very easy to follow. This was my first time making a top, first time using rayon challis fabric, first time sewing a pdf pattern. I will definitely make this again using a different type of fabric.
Terri Pettigrew –
I love this pattern. The inverted box pleat gives a lot of interest to the back view. Its an easy sew and perfect for surging. #love #iplantomakemanymore
Tiina Norrkniivilä –
I’m in love! I wasn’t sure about this pattern when I picked it and after realizing it’s made out of double front and upper back pieces I still felt a little bit unsecure about how the shirt would turn out. But as I saw it during the process, I just became more and more convinced over this becoming one of my new favorites! I made the hem about 7 cm longer and put in some eyelets and ribbon in the back. I just love the sleeves, the hem and the back! I need to make more of these!
Katie Kennedy –
I really love the pretty inside finishes and the lined yoke, both are simple but give this top such an elevated look. The mini-fluted sleeves are also so gorgeous! Just enough for a fabulous shape, but not so long they get in the way.
Shelley Clark –
I LOVE this pattern! The instructions were easy to follow. The finished product was all that I expected and more.
Jenny Gomez –
I love the look of Tessa and it was a fast sew! It’s got such a great classic look that is easy to dress up or down
Vineeta –
Such an easy sew. I love the option of being able to choose to make with or without sleeves. Also, you learn how to customise the pattern according to your body size and length.
Sarah Miller –
This shirt is an easy sew. Quite quick to get cut and to sews up quickly if you are using a serger.
Nikki Eatwell –
The pattern went together well and the instructions were easy to follow with links for the more technical aspects. I found the fabric choice was critical for the lining, I used the linen I’d made the top in & it spoiled the drape. I found the bust was too big (I was at the lowest end of the size in the bust measurements) If I was to make it again i would grade down to a 4xl bust, change the front lining into a facing and lengthen the front, but these are personal preferences.
Sandy Simpson –
What a lovely pattern. It all went together beautifully and I love how neat and tidy the top is on the inside – a very professional finish. I made the Medium (sleeveless) and found it very roomy and comfortable. I would normally make the small or the medium and do a FBA but there was no need for that with this pattern. I often have to lift darts a little but these seem right out. Thank you for a lovely pattern.
Donna Lowe –
I enjoyed making this top. It’s easy and great for beginners. I love the back yoke and the inverted box pleat feature. I made both versions of this top and I am undecided about which I prefer.
Pam OFlynn –
Tessa was an easy sew, as is. I would probably do in a knit fabric for a better fit!
Jenny Gomez –
Beautiful! I am going to have to practice the FBA, but overall enjoyed the pattern!
Rebecca Hinds-Brofft –
A well put together pattern!
Randie Rae Dodman –
Beautiful pattern. The fabric choice definitely makes a difference in the final look. It also makes a big difference in the ease of sewing. I did one in a light linen blend, it was beautiful to work with. I did a second in a slippery poly rayon blend. And while it looks beautiful, it was terrible sewing.
Christina Zoglauer –
Tessa is a very beautiful blouse that you can style very easily up or down. It is the perfect every day wardrobe staple.
