Description

This ladies knit coat sewing pattern is the perfect blend of cardigan and coat. The Carli is soft and drapey like a cardi, and shaped at the waist with darts and an optional belt like a coat.

This pattern features a high neckline and no side seams which highlight the lovely, flowy waterfall collar.

The Carli Coatigan is a super comfy, loose-fitting mixture of everything you need for the ultimate casual cover up for cooler weather.

Skill Level – Beginner

Sizes – Pattern includes ladies’ sizes XXS to 5XL. See the size chart in the gallery above.

Options – Two lengths: mid-thigh and mid-calf, optional patch pockets, belt, and belt loops.

Ideas – Use a light and breezy fabric for a nice and airy cossie cover up for summer!

Fabrics – The Carli Coatigan can be made from stretch/ knit fabric. It can be any weight, however best results and fit will be achieved with a medium-weight two-way stretch. Sweater knits, jersey, stretch fleece, and stretch French terry are great examples. Warmer and heavier fabrics such as hacci knits, stretch wool, and interlock will result in a snugger fit and cosier look.

If you use a fabric with a print or nap such as velvet, remember to cut all pieces in the same direction and to allow extra fabric for this.

See the fabric requirements in the gallery above for yardage. A serger/ overlocker is optional but NOT required.

Format – This trim-free pattern is a downloadable PDF and comes in A4 or US letter printable sizes. An A0 format (pattern pieces only) is also included should you wish to have your pattern printed professionally. PDF Layers allow you to select and print only the size/s you want.

Quick and easy project and a perfect coat/sweater for transitioning seasons or layering! Love how easy it went together and the final look!

  2. Michelle Wellstead

Such a fabulous pattern, so many options as well, with or without pockets, with or without the tie belt. The front of the coat looks very stylish even though an easy sew and the rear darts add some great shape to the Coatigan. I’ve worn it to work with office skirt and blouse and with jeans and T-shirt, so versatile and well with sewing up.

  3. Toni Louise Clark

Loved this sew! Easy and quick to make. As usual RP patterns are well explained and easy to follow. Will definitely be making more! My mum loved her gift!

  4. Elmarie van Deventer

The shape of the neckline / shoulder pieces on the pattern really intimidated me at first, but the instructions are so clear and easy to follow that I was able to whip it up in a morning! I love the fact the hemming is optional (depending on fabric and personal preference), because that greatly speeds up the project! It is so super comfy and warm, it feels like wearing a blanket!

  5. Becky McGill-Wilkinson

What a perfect pattern! This garment is on trend and so stylish. It was also so easy to sew. The pattern is 4 pieces (not counting optional pockets and sash) and took me about 30 minutes to sew up. I love the drapey shawl collar. Instructions were easy to follow and the included photos were super helpful. I made mine of Liverpool, but I plan to make at least one more of thick, cozy sweater knit!

  6. Brittney McCann

The Carli Coatigan was an adorable surprise! Simple yet elegant. The drape, pocket detail, and belt option made this little sweater coat feel like it should have taken weeks to complete when in reality it was a simple sew!

  7. Ellin

Quick sew, super comfortable! Made mine with the pockets and belt but wear it without. Made mine from a sweater knit but can’t wait to make another out of something more stable to get a more coat-ish look
