- Your fabric needs to be at least 40% stretch to fit as designed.
- The stretch recovery is just as important as the stretch percentage. Good recovery will ensure your cardie maintains its fit and shape longer without becoming baggy.
- Both 4-way and 2-way stretch fabric will work well. A fabric with 4-way stretch will give more drape than a 2-way stretch. It will also swing and swish more along the 'waterfall' style front edge.
- Light to medium weight stretch fabrics such as jersey, silk satin with elastine, and silk jersey with elastine will give a lovely drape and swing.
- Warmer and heavier fabrics such as sweater knits, hacci knits, stretch wool, and interlock will give a snugger, cozy look with less drape.
- The other property to consider is how open the weave is. A tight weave such as jersey will give a more solid look than a more open weave such as a stretch wool or some sweater knits which can look more like a knitted garment.
- Thread to match
- Optional clear elastic (may be used to stabilize some fabrics, especially in the shoulder seams)
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Pins or clips
- Ruler
- Serger/Overlocker is optional but not required

The Circle Cardi Pattern is fun and different design on a cardi. Because it is a circle there is no back seam if you cut it on the fold which makes for a clean view on the back. With two lengths and options for bands you’ll get many different versions for any occasion. A nice pattern for the confident beginner or anyone who is looking for a graceful cardigan to use a layering piece.

I honestly did not need another sweater cardigan heading into warmer weather but the sleeveless option made, paired with a lace mesh, made this the perfect pattern for a bathing suit cover up! From print to completion was less than 2 hours with a Toddler assisting. I love the option of the ruffles.

Andreia de Almeida –
I made this cardi as a christmas gift. As I don’t have the actual measurements of the person I as giving it too, I had to roughly guess and I thought this pattern would allow a lot of room. And it did 🙂 I made it in a wool knit, no band and, instead of hemming, I just did a rolled hem on my overlocker. I love it so much that I will make more (for myself!). The instructions are clear and the pattern is easy enough for a beginner, A fun and quick sew too for an experienced sewist.

The Circle Cardie is a quick, fun sew that offers so many options, it’s sure to be a pattern you come back to again and again! By using different fabrics and mixing up the cardigan length, sleeve length, and finishing options, you can use this pattern for a casual or dressy look. I love being able to get different looks and uses out of the same pattern! The pattern itself is very clearly written and easy to follow. Love it!
