It’s swim time! Get that summer wardrobe ready with the ultimate ladies bikini sewing pattern! Comfy and flattering, the Bondi Bikini is fully lined, has a halter-top neck, diamond-shaped cut out, and front bow detailing.
The top is a beautiful shape and can be made in both bikini and tankini lengths. The shorts have either high- or regular-waist options and are a super comfy length.
This bikini is a wonderful set of loveliness that can also be sewn up as separates. The bottoms could just as easily be worn under a sports skirt or as gym shorts, and the tankini-length made up as a prettily-detailed summer top.
The Bondi Bikini is a warm-weather winner!
Skill Level –
Perfect for beginner sewistas.
Pattern includes ladies’ sizes XXS to 5XL! See the size chart in the gallery above.
Bikini or tankini length top, high- or regular-waisted shorts.
Make the tankini length top in a beautiful stretch cotton and you have a simply divine summer top to pair with denim cut offs! Wear the shorts under sports skirts or as gym shorts. Use a power mesh to line the high-waisted band for some tummy-supporting undies.
Main Fabric –
The main fabric of this swimsuit must be 4-way stretch knit with a 40-50 % stretch to create a snug fit. Lycra gives extra stretch and has excellent recovery. Great choices are nylon lycra or jersey polyester lycra. Increasing the amount of lycra/ elastine will provide a tighter, more compression feel to the fit.
Lining Fabric –
The lining fabric of this swimsuit should be typically similar to swim fabrics. They are often a little lighter in weight and have more stretch – a good example is halenka lining which is soft and stretchy, however it can be transparent. You can also use a regular swim fabric instead of a swim lining (as shown throughout the tutorial), as this offers more support.
Panel Fabric –
The panel fabric for this swimsuit can also be a 4-way stretch power mesh for additional support.
If you use a fabric with a print remember to cut all pieces in the same direction and to allow extra fabric for this.
See the fabric requirements in the gallery above for yardage. A serger/ overlocker is optional but NOT required.
