This free DIY peacock costume includes a tutu and a mask pattern for lots of dressing up fun! The instructions given are for how to complete it on a sewing machine, but you could also use a hot glue gun if you prefer.
The Tutu – The tutu can be made to fit any size. Instructions & measurements are given for approximate sizes newborn to 12 years, plus instructions on how to customize to any size including adult. The tutu itself is no-sew, but for the peacock feathers you’ll either need a hot glue gun or to sew them together. You will need either a ribbon or crochet headband, tulle, and felt for the feathers to complete the tutu.
The Mask – Instructions and pattern pieces are given for one size mask which will fit most children aged 2 to 10 years. However you could scale the mask pattern pieces to fit any age, including adults. You’ll need felt and a double sided iron on interfacing such as bond-a-web to hold the pieces on before you stitch them. You can construct the mask either using a sewing machine or with a glue gun. If you use a glue gun though, I’d recommend you secure the last little details with a needle and thread to make sure they stay in place.
The pattern is trim-free, and comes in A4 or US letter size. There is also an A0 format (pattern pieces only) in case you’d like to take it to a professional printer.
Suitable for non-fraying fabrics only such as tulle and felt. Serger/overlocker NOT required.
