Pancake Tutu and Ballet Leotard:

Main- The leotard has been designed for 4-way stretch swim fabrics with 40-50% stretch to create a snug fit. Lycra gives extra stretch and has excellent recovery. Great choices are cotton lycra, nylon lycra, or jersey polyester lycra. increasing the amount of lycra/elastane will provide a tighter, more compression feel to the fit.

Lining – These are typically similar to dance lycra fabrics. They are often a little lighter in weight and have more stretch - a good example is halenka lining which is soft and stretchy, however, it can be transparent. You can also use a regular dance fabric instead of a dance lining as this offers more support.

Tutu Fabric- You will need a stiff poly netting to create the pancake tutu, with minimum width of 78 inches/200 cm.

* If you are using a narrower fabric, a directional print, or a fabric with nap you may need more.

You will also need:

  • 3/4 inch wide Elastic:
    • Leg opening - approximately 1 yard will be sufficient for all sizes
    • Neck and armscye - 1 1/2 yards will be sufficient for all sizes
    • Strait back OPTION - 1/2 yards will be sufficient for all sizes
  • Thread to match

Ballet Wrap Top:

Main & Lining - Your fabric needs to be a stretch/knit fabric with a 2 way stretch. The finer the fabric, the more drape it will have. Great examples are single or double brushed poly, cotton lycra, poly rayon spandex, sweater knit, tri blend, cupro, viscose/rayon elastane, rib knit, modal jersey.

* If you are using a narrower fabric, a directional print, or a fabric with nap you may need more.

You will also need:

  • OPTIONAL Clear elastic - approximately 1 yard will be sufficient for all sizes. This can be added into the front neckline
  • Thread to match

Ballet Wrap Skirt:

Fabric- This skirt is designed for a soft drapey fabric that doesn't need hemming. A chiffon, power mesh or polyester mesh will create a lovely flowy look.

* If you are using a narrower fabric, a directional print, or a fabric with nap you may need more.

You will also need:

  • 2x 1/4 inch Hook and Eyes
  • Thread to match

Tools

  • Sewing machine
  • Pins or clips
  • Scissors
  • Cutting mat
  • Tape measure
  • Serger/overlocker optional but not required.

Ballet Leg Warmers:

Fabric- Your fabric needs to be a stretch/knit fabric with a slight 2-way stretch. Great examples are textured knit, double brushed poly, athletic knit, french terry, cotton lycra, and Liverpool.

It will need to have at least 20% stretch with good recovery to fit as it's designed. To check how much stretch your fabric has, take a piece of fabric, and pull along its stretch, if it allows you to stretch it at least 20% longer than its original length, then it has at least 20% stretch. I.e. A 2-inch piece of unstretched fabric should be able to be stretched to 2.4 inches.

* If you are using a narrower fabric, a directional print, or a fabric with nap you may need more.

You will also need:

  • OPTIONAL Clear elastic with a minimum width of 1/4 inches. Approximately 1 yard will be sufficient for all sizes.
  • Thread to match
