Supercute pattern! It fits great on my girl. Instructions is easy to follow. The most important tips for sewing this hat is befriend with pins pins pins and more pins! I love the finishing binding. I’m proud with my sew, it looks like a store bought sun hat! This is my first time sewing a hat, hence achievement unlocked!
Adelle Pears –
I made a hat! And it really wasn’t as hard as I had always thought. This pattern gives options for lined or unlined and a narrow or wide brim, there are endless possibilities with fabric choices. The instructions as always with RP are clear with lots of pictures to help at every step. I’m really pleased I gave it a try and already have a few more planned!

It is an amazing pattern. I just loved it. Following the instructions it was an easy succes! Thanks a lot!
Agnes Robinson –
I love this hat. I’ll make smaller hats for my children too. Perfect for summer. I won’t have to buy them anymore.
Amanda Cunningham –
This was a great sew. Some of the instructions were difficult to understand, like the binding, but an explanation of millinery techniques would help with that. Overall it wasn’t super difficult and the finished product was one we will all love.
Ann Ruysschaert –
I had a lot of trouble assembling the pattern pieces, even with the video explanation, had to print it twice and fiddle to get the pieces together, it was a fun sew, not recommended for linnen however, my first hat was a linnen but when I sewed the lines on the brim it kind of curled up and made waves, so I began anew and this time it was a winner all round, just the thing I needed for this sunny weather
Anusha Krishnamurthy –
I love this fun pattern, i made a silk one it looks so classy and a fun cotton print for a casual day.
Bernadette Aitken –
This was a fun sew. This pattern lends itself to so many pattern and colour combinations. You can make it as firm or as floppy as you like depending on your interfacing and brim width. Careful clipping and pinning of the curved seams helps with a neat final product.
Branka Čelić –
Sun Hat is a perfect beginner sewing project. Pecise description (A4 pattern). Everythig matched up perfectly. Pattern is so versatile…from smaller size to biger one, with wide or narrow brim size….Such a fun and quick sew.
Brigitte Sauvé –
This hat is absolutely gorgeous! And such and fun sew! So easy that you can sew a bunch to match several outfits! A must have for a day in the sun!
Cassie Ledbetter –
I love it! I was a little intimidated at the thought of making a big floppy sun hat at first but once I dove in, I realized it was a piece of cake. If I can do it, you can do it. 😆Thank you for another brilliant pattern!

With a large range of sizes and both a narrow brim and wide brim option you are sure to get many sizes and options made for yourself or those you love! I love this pattern and will be making many more for me and my sisters and nieces!
Marilyn Garcia –
Looks great but runs large. Made a 22 but it is big, a 21 would have been better. One Thing I would do different on the next one is cut the inner brim with a larger seam allowance, and then trim to size after doing all the stitching on the brim.
Charlene Lee –
Very quick sew and full of details to make it easy to sew. This pattern should be a best seller!! Lots of fun to make and wear!!
Debbie Groves –
Such a cute hat! The perfect warm weather accessory!

Deepthi Gunasheker –
Perfect for that classy look. Efficient scrap buster.
Donna Jones –
this is a fun make! I has lots of frustration with bias binding (discovered i was using the wrong size) but other than that it was great. The instructions are thorough, pictures easy to follow and sewing was quick and fun!
Emily Anderson –
This hat was fun to make! It did not take much time, and I was able to used fabric that I had leftover from another project.
Francisca Beitler –
Easy and quick pattern. Great for left over fabric. The different parts are great for colorblocking and (not in the pattern) it can be decorated with ribbons, buttons etc.
Frieda Flavianu –
A very simple, beginners friendly quick sew Sun hat Pattern. Very addictive too. I could not help but make two in one go. The whole family is covered by one pattern.
Hayati Jamil –
I am suprised that the pattern goes pretty well and fit is excellent. Just follow the tutorial steps and you will get a nice and perfect sun hat to shade you
Grace Elliott –
I love the sun hat pattern! I made 2 in 2 hours for my twins, and they’re so excited to have a kid hat that actually fits their giant heads. Hats for everyone now!
Jamie Adler –
I love this pattern! Why buy a sun hat when you can buy fabric and make the one you really want to own!
Jasmine Chandler –
I think this is a fun and quick easy project. Some of the visuals of the instructions could be a little clearer.
Jelena –
A well drafted pattern with good instructions. I made a wide brim and I’d definitely suggest using stiff interfaxing on at least one layer. I put thin one first and then went with much stiffer on the other layer and it turned out peefect. Love this pattern!
Laura Stephen –
The sun hat is a fun challenge! There are super instructions and a lot of photos in the tutorial. With a whole heap of sizes in the pattern you can make hats for the entire family! Win!
Jill Cook –
Lovely pattern. Very pieces . Simple to make but i do think you may need a bit of expirence to get the crown onto the brim.Took no time at all and I have had requests for lots more
Karla Henrichs –
This was a pretty easy sew. From printing the pattern to finishing for me was just over an hour. I made the narrow brim version. My husband thought it was awesome. I did have some problems attaching the crown and brim. Even though I cut the same size and sewed the same size seam, I still could not get them to fit properly. Brim is larger which caused it to wrinkle in a couple of spots.
Katie Weatherly –
I love these hats. I want hats in all the colors.
Susan Pearson –
Who doesn’t love a fun sun hat? This pattern is simple to follow, and the results are wonderful. I sewed one up for my grandson, and he loves it! I will definitely be making more of these. Love to find patterns that use woven – there are just so many beautiful fabrics out there.
Kelle Lujan –
I made a hat! And would you believe, it wasn’t that hard at all. This pattern prints quickly on just a few pages, doesn’t take much fabric, and is easy to sew (though you might get a bit dizzy while sewing the brim). Two different brim options are included (we made the wide version) and so many sizes you could make one for everyone in the family. Luckily, all 3 girls have very similar head measurements so we can share this beauty between us. But to avoid squabbles, I’m thinking we’ll be making a couple more.
Krystyna Czerwiec –
Perfect for summer, must have for every girl. Easy to sew with wow effect
Laura Stephen –
The sun hat pattern is a versatile pattern that can be used for kids and adults. It is wonderful to have the option to make a hat that is the right fit for your head rather than being stuck trying to find something that will (or more often won’t) work in a store!
Leigh Ann McDermott –
This was a pleasure to sew with an excellent outcome.
Lisa Corriveau –
I really enjoyed making this hat. It’s a straightforward design & easy to make in an afternoon. I made an unlined version with a narrower brim out of linen so it’ll be cool for summer, but denim or canvas would be great too & I may make more out of those in future. The hat is a somewhat loose fit & with interfacing the brim is stiff enough not to flop in the eyes.
Loraine Wilkinson –
Wonderful sew nice and easy instructions with a great result
Magda Rindmo –
I love the pattern. Actually quite fast and easy sew. I really like how professional it all looks with the sewed line on the brim.
Nali Nali –
This is my first time sewing a hat though I’ve always thought of making one. As it turn out, I love this RP Sun Hat so much I’ll be making few more. Such a fun sew and look absolutely gorgeous!
Maja –
Simple sew and great wear 🙂
Mary Acosta –
easy and fast. making more
Randie Dodman –
So easy! And quick! The top stitching was a little bit of an exercise in patience, and eye control, but I found if I kept the edge of the presser foot at the previous line, it was easy to follow.
Rebekah Homer –
YAY!!! I finally have the perfect sunhat! I don’t say that lightly- I always had this dream of a stiff wide brim hat that fit perfectly and didn’t flop or look awkward and here it is! I made the wide brim option and used a foam to interface the brim- perfection! The main construction of the hat i actually super simple. Finishing the inside rim is probably the most difficult step because you’re having to navigate a a *mostly* finished hat in your sewing machine. Overall the hate looks fabulous and feels super comfortable. I keep putting it on inside the house (because it’s too hot to go outside right now lol!
Roeshell Mcnelis –
I love the finished product. I was definitely challenged by this pattern, but the end result was a very nice hat! I would definitely recommend you take your time on this one.
Sally Jacobs –
Easy pattern to make, lined mine with a fairly stiff interfacing in the brim.
Samantha Carling –
“Loved this pattern. Honestly it’s one of the best hat Patterns I have tried. It fits perfectly, with a little room to grow. My girl measured 19.5. The instructions were quite clear. The only confusion I had was when placing the tape inside the hat.
I struggled a little with that, and will end of having to redo it, but that’s not too big of a deal.
The pictures were very clear and followed along with the instructions well. I look forward to creating more!”
Sharon Courtney –
Super easy sew for the perfect accessory. Narrow or wide brim option in a range of sizes. Easy to follow pattern with both detailed instructions and cheat sheet for all sewing abilities Make one in all the colours to match your outfit!
Shona Young –
This is such an awesome pattern, yes, it is a Sun Hat but it could equally be used to make waterproof hats. The narrow brim is a good all round hat pattern but the wider brim looks fantastic too and could be made into something a little more wow factor for special occasions depending on fabric used. It was really easy and quick to sew, I just love it.
Tara Mathews –
Loved making the sun hat. As a beginner, this pattern helped me practice sewing curves and introduced me to staystitching. Even as a beginner the sun hat turned out great!
Tiina Norrkniivilä –
An easy pattern and a quite quick sew. Remember to be accurate with the decorstitch on the brim, the more careful you are, the better the stitches will match up. Especially the wide brim-version requires more fabric that you may anticipate, but it’s definitely worth it, it looks so good!
Harriëtte Aertse –
Easy pattern simple to follow instructions.
Stephanie Koehler –
What a great gift idea and perfect for the summer. I really enjoyed this easy sew with the choices of brim how can you only make one?
Charldene Sauer –
Such a fun sew, and definitely a good scrap buster.
Lisa Lazenby –
This tote has some great details (the inner zip pocket and key ring holder) that are easily completed with the thorough instructions. I used a heavier outdoor fabric that is going to wipe easily and also didn’t require the interfacing. A fun pattern I will be using again!
Yulia Shikhova Korinnyi –
Makes a perfect gift. I love the outside pocket and makes it super easy to personalize. My mom absolutely loved the bag I made her.
Virginie Bissinger –
This pattern is quick to make for a bag of the most beautiful effect. The instructions are clear and the sewing is quick for a perfect finished bag. Several options are possible but the best is to let go in this creation with the outer fabric or the lining, or both!
Victoria Williams –
“This tote bag is such an amazing pattern- i see many more in my future! It can be used for so many different things by changing up your fabrics and pocket combos!
I was a little intimidated by this pattern before i started (no idea why, the instructions walk you through the entire project!) and once i sussed out my straps (my fabric was too thick to turn but i didnt realise) it was a really quick sew. Its big enough for books, or a day out with the kids-you can fit lots of pop and snacks in!! Anything you want really! This bag isnt too big like some totes that flap about and you lose all your things in the bottom, and all the pockets halp you stay organised. “
Vicki Jean Moore –
A fun quick sew! Perfect for small grocery trips, toys, snacks, books-you name it!
Tote Bag –
I really loved sewing this pattern. Easy and quick to sew! The tote bag is the perfect pattern for someone who is just starting to learn how to sew. The explanations are clear and the pictures are really helping! I plan to make many more!
Susan Gough –
Love this pattern. Easy to follow, quick to make. Made it with a Cotton Duck Fabric which made for a nice supported outer.
Sheila Hlushak –
Just finished the Tote Bag, so many ideas for future make to help get me organized. This one I made as a travel bag for my little dog. Now she has a styling bag to bring all her necessities when we travel. Get size and easy to put together.
Melinda Bailey –
So pleased with how well this tote bag came together. Such a good size bag to carry to the gym or the beach, or even as a plastic free options for the shops!
Kerry Kirby Wallman –
This tote bag is really versatile, and the options make it really personizable. The steps are easy to follow and clearly written. The photos really help for reference. I wish I had used strapping for the straps instead of making my own – I think it gives a cleaner look, but I really wanted it to match my lining. I love this bag and I’m excited to make more for gifts.
Kelly Stokes –
This is such an awesome pattern! Nice and simple for beginners but also extras for those who want to add a bit extra. The straps are nice and long to go over your shoulder properly, or there are options to make shorter straps for kids
Kelle Lujan –
I’m generally a clothes maker, but every once in a while, it’s fun to venture into something different. My girls needed a tote to carry wet swimming suits back from the local pond and this was the perfect size! I added the optional zipper pocket and a key tab so they could easily store their bike keys, sunglasses, and sunblock. Instructions were clear. and I had no trouble assembling the pattern pieces. If you are looking for something other than clothes to sew, give this tote a try.
Karla Holmes –
This was a super easy sew! The bag came out really good too! If you’re a beginner looking to make a bag, this is the best first bag pattern. Its super easy and I love how it came out! Will make more for sure! Highly recommended.
Karin Williams –
An easy, quick sew and a simple pattern to follow. I was a bit scared of sewing a zipper but it turned out to be a piece of cake with easy to follow instructions. Thanks for yet another great pattern!
Hannah Zemek –
Amazing pattern and such a quality finish. I loved making this pattern
Desiree Zsiga Kumpf –
This tote bag is perfect for carrying my knitting project, a few supplies, and even my small laptop! It is extremely sturdy if made in cotton duck fabric. The pattern is straightforward and well-written. It comes together in an afternoon, provided you are able to easily decide which of the fabrics in your stash to use! I will be making several more of these for myself and for gifts.
