The sky is the limit with this pattern.
You can use ANY woven fabric, notions, or decorations you like. It really is up to your imagination. It’s an excellent scrap buster too!
Cape Main & Lining Fabric:
You can use any woven fabric for this. Best results will be from something such as cotton or quilting cotton. You will be stitching loads of bits of mane to the cape, so it needs to be strong enough to hold them all. If you want to use a heavier fabric, remember the mane will add a lot of weight and will make the cape quite warm to wear.
Head:
This is the hood and any woven fabric will work. You could go plain like cotton, or something totally different like fur!
“This was a fun and creative sew! I really enjoyed imagining / trying different options for the mane and horn. And it was so easy and quick to sew I even got it done in between numerous breastfeeding sessions! The end result is magical and makes a nice addition to our costume chest.” – Gabrielle Carisse
“I loved sewing this Cape! There really is no end to the ways you can decorate it. The instructions were very clear, and the sewing time was about 2.5 hours total.” – Nicky Dexter
“This is a super cute and fun sew. I already have plans for more and also different hacks. I loved that it had so many options to be able to make it your own. My daughter loves it so much.” – Liz Faber

My daughter is too big for child sizes now so when i saw there was a adult unicorn cape i knew i had to do this for her. There was quite a bit of hand sewing involved as the mane was too big for my sewing machine ooops but it was all worth it to see the look on her face once it was finished. She adores it and i am so proud of myself for finishing it all and i hope she has many years of unicorn play to come. Thank you RP for making this possible and making my daughter so happy.

I absolutely love the Unicorn Cape and the possibility to make it as basic or as pimped as you want. The pattern is very well explained and illustrated. The basic pattern is very easy for a beginner. Maybe it would be a possibility to add a cut file for cutting machines like silhouette cameo (or other) for the eyes/nose/birthmark.

Super easy and fun sew. Options for personalization are endless with components to add or leave out and material that you can use. I LOVE my end result and ended up bringing it to work to keep warm while working at my desk and my coworkers loved it as well!
