Grecian-styled dresses have long been a massive favourite of mine. In fact, every event I have been to that involves some kind of fancy dressing up has me leaning towards the beautiful flowy, draped movement that is so gracefully characteristic of this style.
One-shouldered dresses, drapes and gathers, swathes of ethereal fabric; I ADORE Grecian inspired garments. So much so, my wedding dress was 100% out of the Grecian playbook. Which, of course, means that the Madeleine and I have firmly bonded!
One of the best things about the Madeleine, apart from all that gorgeousness, is how versatile it is! This pattern can take you, beautifully dressed, to a fancy event (even your own wedding), or to a hammock in the garden with a good book and a sun hat. This style is everyday appropriate and can be zhoozhed up for evening elegance too. The secret is in the fabric you use; as long as it’s a knit with at least 20-30% stretch, you’re golden!
This dress is elegant AND comfy with the unique, but simple to sew, circular neckband flowing over the gathered bust and draping into the hip-skimming, full length skirt. The silhouette is extremely flattering for all body types, including expectant mama bears! That’s right! The Madeleine is perfect for maternity wear too!
I have an idea formulating in my brain for a bit of a bedazzled metallic Madeleine with some cut out hacking in strategic place. Watch this space to see if it works… ?
