Welcome to day 2 of our Berry Bubble Shorts sew along! In this post we are going to work on adding our pockets and sewing the two front pieces together.
Place one of your pocket bags onto your shorts with wrong sides together. Line up the curved edges and baste the pocket in place. Repeat on the other side.
Wrap one of your bias tape pieces around the pocket curve, making sure the raw edge of your pocket meets at the center of the bias tape. Pin in place.
Topstitch 1/8″ from the inside edge of the binding. Go slow and make sure that you are catching the back layer of the binding.
Place one of your pocket pieces over the pocket bag, right sides together and pin together. Be careful not to catch your shorts.
Sew the two pocket pieces together around the outside curve. Sew around the curve again 1/4″ from your first stitch line.
With a 1/4″ seam allowance, baste the top and side of your pocket to the shorts. Repeat for the other pocket.
We are now going to join our two front pieces together. With right sides together, line up both curved center seams. Pin and sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance.
Clip the curve you just sewed by making little snips 3/4 of the way into the seam allowance. Be careful not to get too close to the stitching.
From the inside of your shorts, press the seam to the left. Now working from the right side again, topstitch 1/8″ from the right side of the seam.
Repeat the above steps to join the front lining pieces together, but press your seam to the left and do not topstitch.
That’s it for today. Tomorrow for Day 3 we are going to work on adding the front yokes and lining. See you then!
