What do you enjoy most about working at RP?

The chance of learning and be inside of a team which develops a great work and I admire for so long

Can you tell us a little bit about how you got into your line of work that lead you to RP?

Madison Blouse was my first test ever. Then Kingston Jacket and then… then I got addicted to this thing of being a tester. I learned so much along these years. But the Mummykins and Me team (back then was the name) was such a great experience. I became a huge fan of RP Patterns and then when the Ambassador Group was created I applied but wasn’t chosen. I was sad but continue following the work and applying to the tests. Then one day I don’t remember how I knew that I could be part of the BA team. I was so happy. I love the patterns so much and is such a pleasure to sew them and be part of this. And now… here I am. Like a dream come true

What qualifications do you have/ courses completed?

Well…..sewing qualifications…..experience counts? I’m a civil engineer.

What is your favourite RP pattern?

Autch…difficult question. Love Stevie, Dreamy Drape, Pippa, Posy Pleated Pants… maybe that one…or maybe another one…I think I can’t choose just one.

Describe a typical day in your life.

I wake up, I prepare my 3 boys (6,8 and 12 yo) to go to school (I wake them up, feed them, I choose and iron their clothes). The older one goes to school by himself and the younger ones I go and take them walking to school as a morning family walk every day. Then I go to work (teaching people to sew in my own atelier). Not every day. In the other days I go to the gym and clean and neat the house. At the end of the day, I pick  the children at school, take them to swimming or football depending on the days. Get home, cook dinner and put them in bed. In the middle there is always time for a walk to the park if there is time, some play, and reading books, many books. After all that, alone with my husband it is time to relax, watch TV, google around in the internet and sometimes fall asleep on the couch 🙂

Tell us a bit about your style.

Talking about sewing? I like loose fitting sewing styles, inspired in Japanese patterns more of tops then bottoms and not quite a dressy lady.

Where are you from? And where do you currently live?

Born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal where I still live

How long have you been sewing and how did you start?

I worked for 14 years as a Civil Engineer, but I left when I was a mother for the second time in 2010. It was then that in 2011 sewing comes into my life as a passion. In an unexpected way, but in such a sweeping way that it easily becomes something almost natural in me. I gave the “first steps” in the machine of my mother, once of the grandmother. The initial curiosity was increasing and this made me invest in learning that, allied to an autodidact facet, made me grow as a sewist.

If you had one wish (not necessarily sewing related) what would it be?

Health and money is very usual right?…..

What’s your superpower?

Be a present mom

What’s the superpower you really want?

The power to teach my boys to be the most wonderful human beings

Can you please share some go-to fail-safe tips for beginner sewistas?

Do not get distracted by conversation and always look at the machine when sewing, never stick the thread on the needle with your foot on the pedal.

Describe your perfect Sunday.

Perfect Sundays are summer Sundays spent with the family at the beach.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which historical figure would you want with you, and why?

Never thought of that. I would want my family with me…not some people I only heard of, sorry (even if historical ones )

What’s the sound of your favourite colour?

Blue – has the sound of the sea hitting the sand and the kids laughing while jumping the waves

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Sew of course and read

What do you wish you knew more about?

Sewing related? Everything. I think there is always something new to learn and different techniques to see.
