What do you enjoy most about working at RP?
The happy, fun, positive environment. Such a lovely group of international people to work with but mostly helping my daughter grow her business.
Can you tell us a little bit about how you got into your line of work that lead you to RP?
I have sewed since I was a little girl. It’s my favourite hobby. How lucky am I to be working at my hobby!
What qualifications do you have/ courses completed?
BSc in Chemistry and qualified as a DISC behavioural teacher
What is your favourite RP pattern?
Love all of them! The Taylor Trench is probably the one as it’s so versatile. I have made 4 of them and each one turned out beautiful but different to the others. I made it in wool, gaberdine, floral and lace.
Describe a typical day in your life.
I generally do admin in the mornings and sew in the afternoons. The other little jobs I have get done in between times
Tell us a bit about your style.
I like to always be smart but comfortable as I work from home. Favourite colours are cream and pink/lilac/turquoise
Where are you from? And where do you currently live?
Born in London and emigrated to New Zealand when I was 4. Lived there for 50 years then moved back to the UK. Lived for 5 years in Scotland and moved to Milton Keynes, England 10 years ago. Oh dear if you do the math you can work out my age LOL!
How long have you been sewing and how did you start?
Most of my life, starting with dolls clothes then for myself, followed by sewing for 3 daughters and now back for myself
If you had one wish (not necessarily sewing related) what would it be?
People to be kind to each other
What’s your superpower?
I’m a good listener and can give good advice when asked.
What’s the superpower you really want?
Teleporting. I don’t like driving
Can you please share some go-to fail-safe tips for beginner sewistas?
Pin, press, repeat
Describe your perfect Sunday.
All my Sundays are lovely – Eggs and bacon for breakfast, some sewing, then some crafting (I love art journaling), nice meal I made with some wine. Sundays are perfect when I get to see the children and grandchildren.
If you were stranded on a desert island, which historical figure would you want with you, and why?
Dmitri Mendeleev. I’m a bit of an academic so it would be great to discuss the Periodic Table and all the new advances in chemistry with the man himself.
What’s the sound of your favourite colour?
Soft and gentle like a violin
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
Read more, learn more
If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?
Understanding people using behavioural profiling
What do you wish you knew more about?
History. When I was at college the choice of subjects was always between History or Chemistry so I never took it. I find English history very interesting, particularly the kings and queens
